2-week-old elephant loves blowing bubbles with her trunk

When most kids get their hands on a straw and a drink, you can be certain bubbles are about to ensue. The same is also true when it comes to elephant babies.

At birth, baby elephants’ trunks are wild, unwieldy things. Like children struggling to put a toy into their mouth, baby elephants are not born with the trunk dexterity of their adult counterparts.

Most of the time, baby elephants will suck on their trunks, and it can take up to six to eight months for elephants to start using their trunks to drink and eat, which makes what this baby elephant did that much more special.

At the Reid Park Zoo, this unnamed two-week-old elephant joined her mom at a kiddie pool that the handlers used as a water trough. Watching her mom drink, the baby seemed to get an idea.

The baby elephant’s ears started flapping with joy, and she started playing in the water with her trunk, splashing around while her mom, Semba, drank her fill of the water.

While the baby elephant had her trunk in the water, she blew as hard as she could and jumped back when a bubble burst from the water. This only seemed to encourage the baby elephant, and she dove back in with zeal.

While this baby continued to play, her mom, Semba, watched over her. What a fun and adorable day for this joyful baby elephant. Take a look at the video for yourself.
