Responding to a call about a sick dog, Howl of a Dog made their way out of the car, and a sweet but hesitant stray ran up to greet them. According to locals, she had lived in the neighborhood for a few months.

Romanian locals often treat stray dogs as “part of the landscape.” If people consider a dog too friendly and not potentially helpful for protection or hunting, they will leave them on the street.
This dog had counted herself among the “lucky” strays in Romania, receiving scraps of food from passersby. That was until she developed a skin condition, and people began chasing her away.

Still, the dog was friendly despite how people had treated her, and Howl of a Dog was determined to bring her back to safety. But they needed to get her to a safer area away from the road first.
They led the dog away from the road with treats and patiently showed her that they were only here to help her. Once they convinced her they meant no harm, they loaded her into a backseat full of treats.

Back at the shelter, they named the lovable dog Heidi and started treating her skin with a medicated bath to help with the itchiness. After that, they let Heidi rest.
After three months of diligent care and lots of baths, Heidi made a complete recovery, both emotionally and physically. And just a few months after her transformation, she found the forever home she had always been waiting for.
