When adding animals into a family, most people think of dogs or cats. Still, for one family, their newest family member was a donkey. The donkey’s name was Snickers.

Damaris and her three-year-old son, Gunnar, first found out about Snickers from a friend looking to find a home where the donkey could receive the attention he deserved.
Snickers was right at home when he came onto their property, and he and Gunnar immediately bonded. Snickers came right up to the fence to greet his new human brother at their first encounter.

And the feeling was mutual. Gunnar would walk right up to the fence to give Snickers loving pets. The three-year-old, who is very independent and loves doing chores, also took joy in helping to feed Snickers.
Snickers loves all the attention he gets from his family. When Gunnar walks around the farm, his donkey brother is sure to be right behind him, following wherever he goes.

Like any animal and human duo, the two bring each other so much joy and love. “They both have a crazy amount of energy,” said Damaris. “And when Gunnar and Snickers are together, then they do have more of this sense of calm.”
Watching the two of them play and walk together, it is clear that Snickers has found a home where he belongs. It will be beautiful to see how the two brothers’ connection grows as they get older.
