What’s your take on climbing heights? Is it something you would want to try, or would you rather stay away from them? Have you ever climbed very steep rocks or hills? Would you like to? I’ve seen some people do some very astounding things like climb a building without any safety apparatuses, that’s something I would not dare to do.
Well, if you tend to get a little nervous when it comes to heights, just check out these goats. Growing up, I thought there were about 2 or 3 distinct types of goats, but it turns out there are about 50 different breeds of goats. One of the most impressive ones to watch is called Alpine Ibex.
This breed of goat, also known as Steinbock, represents a group of wild goats that live in the European Alps. These goats are famous around the globe for being the real daredevils of the world, and this is why. It turns out they are very good climbers. They can climb the most difficult terrain, and they make it look easy.
The terrain they can climb is not only rough but also incredibly steep, almost horizontal. Live Science explains that their “hooves have sharp edges and concave undersides that act like suction cups to help them grip the side of steep, rocky cliffs.”
While all this background may sound very cool on paper, many people who have witnessed their feats say there’s nothing like seeing them in person – or video. And remember, when Live Science says, “Steep cliffs,” they mean extremely steep cliffs. And this is what this video will show you.
Alpine Ibex goats are vegetarians. This means that the plants they consume on a daily basis don’t always contain all the nutrients they need. For instance, one of the nutrients they need the most is not contained in these plants. It is mineral-rich salt, and it is found in weird places.
The stone that contains this nutrient is found in a vertical 160-foot wall in the Cingino Dam in the Italian Alps. Even though this wall is almost vertical, the goats have no problem moving and looking for these rocks as if they were walking on a horizontal surface. What’s even more impressive is that some of them move fast. Just watching them do it makes me cringe. Walking on such a steep wall is literally walking on the walls of death.
The minute you start watching them, you’ll see that they literally look as if they were trapped or glued to the wall, but the way they walk on it is what brings them more success. But don’t take my word for it. Click on the video and see why these goats are the true daredevils of the world.
