On a hot day at the elephant sanctuary, the baby elephant Wan Mai cooled off in the river. As always, her mom and nanny watched over the baby elephant while she played in the water.

Elephants, like humans, develop rich familial bonds with members of their herd. Wan Mai was no exception. She had a powerful connection with her mother, Mae Mai, and her nanny, SriNuan.
Wan Mai was close to both of the adult elephants, running back and forth in the water from one to the other. From the look of things, this playful elephant needed two adults to look after her.

Mae Mai and SriNuan were the perfect fit for Wan Mai. She rolled underneath the two adult elephants and ducked under them, but the nanny and mom remained patient and careful of the little one.
Mae Mai and SriNuan waded in the water while Wan Mai did her best to splash her watchful guardians. Even when the baby elephant accidentally kicked the adults, they remained stoic and gentle.
Eventually, the two adult elephants decided it was time to come out of the water, and Wan Mai joined them on the shore to dry off from the fun in the river.

After playtime, Wan Mai touched her nanny’s face and drank milk from her mom. Take a look at this heartwarming window into the everyday lives of these intelligent and compassionate animals.
