On a trip to view the Great Wall of China, Cliff and Abby came upon a heartbreaking sight. Trapped in a cage and surrounded by snow was a large, underweight dog with mats in his fur.
Cliff and Abby knew from the moment they saw him that they wanted to take him home. In January, they were approved, and Wally came home to his new family.
At his new home, Wally was like a completely different dog. Abby reflected that watching him grow into a happier version of himself was like watching a caterpillar become a butterfly.
Before he left, they had to shave off the mats in his fur, but with time, he became fluffy dog again and gained weight to become a healthier dog than he was when they first met.
Five months after bringing Wally into their home, Cliff and Abby found out they were expecting a child. When they brought their daughter back from the hospital, Wally immediately bonded with his little sister.
He was gentle and would sniff and kiss her hands and the back of his baby sister’s head. And according to Abby and Cliff, the love was mutual. Whenever their daughter saw Wally, she would squeal with joy.
Abby was confident about the future for these two siblings. “They’re buddies, and [Wally] just felt more complete and felt like he had someone that he really needed to protect, and that’s her.”
