When most children are younger, they spend their allowances or the spare change in their piggy banks on small treats. The six-year-old Xander Mellor had a different plan for his money.
For over 18 months, Xander had saved every spare bit of change he could find for a specific purchase. Rather than wanting a new video game or toy, Xander wanted a puppy.
Many kids dream of having their own puppies one day, but few children are as focused as Xander was. Every day, when his mom came home from work, he would ask her to place her spare change into his growing funds.
Despite months of being told he needed to wait, Xander remained focused. That made what happened on a day when his grandparents visited him at his home that much more special.
Xander had no idea what was in store when his parents asked him to go outside to meet his grandparents. They told him to hold out his arms and close his eyes.
We do not know what Xander expected when he put out his hands, but it definitely was not a puppy. So, when his grandparent set a wriggling pup into his arms, he was shocked and unbelievably excited.
When his mom asked the six-year-old boy what he thought of his surprise, he whispered, “I love it.” And as most animal-loving little ones would, Xander burst into tears of joy.
