Bull learns to play soccer from his “moo-m”

While most people might come home from college with a new career or new partner, Laura came home with a new, unconventional member of the family, a bull named Spud.

Laura met Spud when she was a senior in college. As part of one of her courses at Louisiana Tech, Laura had the opportunity to raise an animal, and she requested that she receive an animal that had a future ahead of it. That was where she met Spud.

But as Laura reached the end of her course, she received a call from her instructor. She told Laura that Spud’s future was no longer certain. So, Laura decided that she would be the one to give Spud a forever home.

This new development came as a shock to Laura’s parents. “I call my parents and I’m like ‘Hey! Remember that little bull, Spud, that I’ve been raising? Is it cool if he comes home with me?’”

Fortunately, Laura and her family had a farm that could house the newest family member. Spud fit right in at his new home. He had all the food and space he needed, and he even took after Laura with his new hobby: soccer.

Laura lost count of the number of balls Spud popped since he arrived at his new home. “He loves the pressure on his head,” said Laura. “So he continues to push until the ball is now covering his head and it pops in his face.”

Over the years that Laura has been “moo-m” to this bull that was never supposed to be hers, she has given all her love to Spud, and she has learned a lot along the way, too. “Spud has taught me that… you don’t have to be what you’re expected to be in life.”
