Most people consider fishing a calm, relaxing pastime, and usually, that is the case. But when this compassionate man went out on his boat, he saw a bird struggling in the water.

“The bird looks like he’s hurt or something,” he said. He took his oars and rowed out to the creature and discovered that the little one was tangled up in something.
The bird struggled harder as the man’s boat approached. “I ain’t trying to hurt you, buddy,” he said. “I’m kinda concerned about you.” When the man was closer, he realized the bird was caught in a discarded fishing line.

The bird was terrified of the stranger, but the man was gentle and kind. He lifted the little one out of the water and began to unwind the fishing line.
Even when the bird struggled and pecked at him, the man remained calm. “Let me get this fishing line out. I’m going to get you [out],” he said. “I know, you can peck me, I don’t mind.”

The poor bird was more tangled up than the fisherman had imagined. But he was determined to set the creature free. He freed his face first, knowing that this made getting pecked more likely.
With one final cut, the bird was free! The man checked the bird once over to ensure he had not missed any fishing lines, and when he was positive the bird was safe, he let the bird swim away.
