Compassionate man rescues special needs pig from euthanasia

When Mikey, the tiny pig, arrived at the veterinarian after a dog attack, it looked like this might be the end of the line. Mikey was $100 short of the money that would allow the veterinarians to operate.

So, the veterinarians reached out to Todd from Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary. When they told the compassionate man about Mikey’s plight, Todd knew he could not refuse.

Money was tight, but Todd was committed to helping all the animals he could. “Our vet bills were skyrocketing,” said Todd. “But I also vowed when I started the sanctuary that I was never going to put a price on an animal’s life.”

The veterinarians performed brain surgery to help the injured pig. At first, Mikey had difficulty walking. “He was spinning one way in a circle and not doing much else,” said Todd.

But within a few days, Mikey had recovered enough to leave the veterinarian and venture to his new forever home with Todd. “He’s ready to go home, and he knows I’m his new dad,” said Todd.

Unfortunately, Mikey had one more hurdle to overcome in his recovery. After a few days at his new home, he started struggling to breathe and had to return to the veterinarian for an upper-respiratory infection.

After a few weeks of treatments, Mikey settled into his new home, and the special needs pig could not be happier. “He runs and he plays and he grazes,” said Todd. “He’s being a pig.”
