Though the rescuer suspected that the fox might lose its paw, he noted that a three-footed fox could still live an effective life. The fox demonstrated its resilience by jumping five feet up a retaining wall shortly after being released.
Georgia considers foxes as vector species, meaning they cannot be taken into rehab or relocated and are usually euthanized when brought into facilities. Sanders Wildlife, restricted by the law and unable to use firearms in the area, chose to give the fox a fighting chance by releasing it, hoping it could heal on its own. Despite limited resources and constraints, Sanders Wildlife consulted with professionals and made the best decision possible for the fox.
While it is unfortunate that legal limitations sometimes hinder optimal care for wildlife, this story serves as a reminder that compassion, resilience, and determination can make a difference, even in less-than-ideal circumstances.
