Dog who loses front legs learns to hop around the house

When Zach and Heather Skow first met their poodle, Cora, who had broken both of her front legs, it seemed like the little one had lost her will to live. They knew to give their new dog a second chance at life the vet would have to amputate her legs.

Zach felt conflicted, but he knew it was the right decision. “I knew we had to give her an opportunity to fight,” he said, “but I wasn’t sure that she could handle it.”

Once the rehabilitation process began, Zach felt like he saw the real Cora. Whenever they greeted her in her roomy, warm kennel, her tail would start wagging furiously.

Cora showed Zach and Heather that she would not take no for an answer. Even with her front legs missing, she did her best to move and even stood up briefly on her own.

Zach and Heather encouraged her every step of the way, helping strengthen her back legs and improve her balance. Once Cora realized she could improve, her rehabilitation skyrocketed. She hopped around the house and stood on her hind legs like a pro.

Cora’s recovery inspired everyone around her, including Zach and Heather’s daughter, Shiloh. The two of them grew up alongside each other, and since they both loved giving and receiving attention, they were a perfect match.

One of the most heartwarming moments by far were Shiloh’s first steps. And Cora was right their hopping alongside her, encouraging her baby sister every step of the way.
