While many dogs in shelters find their forever homes, some sad pups do not get to have that chance. That was almost the case for the eight-month-old puppy named Benny.
Before Benny’s new parent arrived to pick him up, the eight-month-old dog was at risk of being put down since the shelter was at capacity. Fortunately, it never came to that.
Benny had enticed a few people who walked by his kennel, but no one had ever made the necessary leap of faith to welcome him into their home. That was until one family arrived.
As the compassionate family approached his kennel, the puppy greeted them with his usual canine cheer, but something was different about the people who came to greet Benny that day.
Instead of stopping at his kennel and continuing past, they opened up his door and put a leash on him. Thankfully, the team at the shelter captured Benny’s adorable reaction to his newfound freedom.
At first, he was understandably nervous. It was as if he could not let himself believe that he was leaving for good, but as reality settled in, he began bounding and wagging his tail and tugging at the leash to leave.
Dogs like Benny just need a new, loving home to give them the opportunity they need to shine. Fortunately, Benny’s new family saw the golden heart inside their fur baby.
