One of the scariest prospects for most pet owners is the thought of losing their pet. Unfortunately, one woman in Colorado faced that fear when her Golden Retriever decided to take herself for an impromptu walk.
Lisa Menzies and her husband were out of town when their dog, Catcher, made her escape. The couple had a contractor at their home to do repairs while they were gone.
Everything was fine when the contractor went to lunch, but soon after the contractor went to lunch, the wind blew the door open. Catcher was an adventurous girl at heart, so she saw the open door as her chance to start a journey into the outside world.
As she took her first steps outside, the camera outside Lisa’s door captured the escape. The video showed the sweet Golden Retriever walking out the door and turning the corner before disappearing from sight.
Fortunately, an unexpected helper came to Catcher’s rescue. A FedEx driver was going down the street when he saw the Golden Retriever, looked at her collar and brought her into his van.
Minutes later, Lisa’s camera saw the FedEx driver stepping out of his car with a “special delivery” in his arms. He placed Catcher inside and made sure the door was properly locked before returning to his truck.
Lisa could not have been more appreciative of the compassionate driver. “He interrupted his day and his package delivery schedule to pick her up and hand-carry her into our home and lock the door behind him,” said Lisa. “I don’t want to think about where else she could have ended up.
