Because of their helpful nature, it makes sense that German Shepherds would be a wonderful breed to have around children. In this video, a dutiful German Shepherd cares for a little girl.

Loki the German Shepherd and toddler Tallulah are best friends. Both are curious and playful, and Loki takes an active role in helping to raise Tallulah. His presence enriches her life.

Loki often plays alongside Tallulah, helping the only child not feel lonely. He affectionately gives the toddler sloppy kisses, which sends her into a fit of giggles.

The German Shepherd even models how to perform specific actions. Ryan, the father, says, “Loki, High-Five,” and the dog playfully hits Ryan’s palm with his paw. The dad then says the same to Tallulah, and she responds as she saw Loki do.

Funny enough, Loki wasn’t always this responsible older brother. Before Tallulah came along, Ryan explains that Loki was a “naughty boy” who did whatever he wanted. Ryan found the dog’s antics endearing, so he didn’t train him to be better.

However, when Tallulah was born, Loki took on his role as a big brother with great seriousness. The German Shepherd watches Tallulah at all times, knowing where she is and what she’s doing. Long gone are the days of carefree puppy behavior–Loki has a purpose in life now, and his reward is love.
