When Simon Curtis ordered his romaine lettuce salad, he ended up getting much more than he intended. Simon noticed a green blob in his salad, and when he inspected it, he found a frog.
Simon made sure to point out he did not scream, not that we would have blamed him. “He was really cute, and he was so cold that he was perfectly still,” said Simon.
With it being only 24 degrees outside, Simon knew he could not release the frog, who he named Tony, that night. So, he made a makeshift terrarium using the romaine lettuce box.
At first, Simon did not intend to make Tony part of his family. “My intention was mainly just to get him through that night,” said Simon. Then he added, “initially.”
Under Simon’s care, Tony proved to be quite the escape artist. Over the first few days, Tony escaped into the kitchen, on top of the door and into the shower. “He got out of that stupid lettuce box so many times,” said Simon.
After Tony’s last escape into the shower, Simon decided to get his amphibious friend a proper terrarium. Simon still was uncertain about keeping Tony, so he bought a smaller terrarium. “I at least got something that I knew I could seal him in,” said Simon.
Ultimately, Simon wanted to do the best he could for Tony and the environment, and after hearing back from several biologists, Simon finally made his decision. “I guess I have a new pet!”
