Sperm Whales are enormous mammals that grow up to 55 feet. They are easily recognized by their round forehead and massive heads. However, these gigantic whales have actually become vulnerable despite their size.
Recently, Hugues Vitry, a world-famous Mauritian environmentalist and underwater photographer helped conserve marine life by risking his life. He knew that even one person could make a difference and decided to save the intelligent Sperm Whale that “asked” for his help.
The whale swam close to Vitry and moved her massive body sideways before asking for help. The poor creature opened her mouth to show the diver that she needed his help. The Sperm Whale passed by Vitry and opened her mouth as if she were talking to him.
When Vitry closely inspected the Sperm Whale, he found a small hook stuck in her mouth. It was sad that trash was dumped into oceans every year, affecting marine life. So he went closer to the whale and tried to rub her nose.
The Sperm Whale grunted at Vitry as he tried to remove the hook. He was pretty scared as he feared the massive whale would bite him. But, with plenty of courage, he put his hands inside the jaws and yanked the hook out.
He was glad that he could help her. The intelligent Sperm Whale made another sound which sounded like she was thanking her rescuer. She stayed there for a while before leaving.
Vitry decided to get close to the whale once again. First, he hugged her by pressing his head against the whale’s body. Then, the kind environmentalist whispered a few words of love to the defenseless animal.
