Kindhearted foster mom helps feral pregnant cat learn to love again

A volunteer for her local cat rescue, Barbara Sundquist, is used to working with difficult cats. So she was ready to help when the caretaker of an industrial property found a pregnant cat on their property.

When Cannelloni first arrived at her foster mother’s, she was standoffish. Whenever Barbara would approach, she would bat at the air and hiss. Still, Barbara was patient, spending long days in the room with her until she became more comfortable.

The process took time, but Barbara was diligent, taking a book in with her to help the expecting mother acclimate to her presence. Then, finally, Cannelloni had her five kittens.

When it came time to name the little ones, Barbara decided to follow the theme of Italian noodles as a naming convention. The five kittens were named Penne, Gnocchi, Ravioli, Gemelli, and Trenette.

Taking care of five babies on your own is quite the undertaking, though, so Barbara enlisted some special help from Cannelloni’s mom, Bella. The sweet grandma cat immediately stepped in to help.

It wasn’t long before Cannelloni’s babies found their forever homes, and it was time to consider whether Cannelloni would do well in another home. While Cannelloni had warmed up to her, Barbara wasn’t sure if being an indoor cat would be best for her.

Fortunately, Barbara was able to find a willing family who gave Cannelloni the home she needed. She now lives on a farm where she can come and go and receive the love she so deserves.
