When the snow started to melt around a mama wolf’s den, she had to rush to save her seven puppies from drowning. Four weeks earlier, it was still cold, and the pregnant wolf was looking for a place to give birth.
After searching, she finally found the perfect then underneath the thick roots of a tree. It was out of sight and protected from the elements. The mama wolf then gave birth to seven puppies.
While the puppies were safe in the den, the mama wolf went out on her own to hunt. They were comfortable at the moment, but the snow wouldn’t last for long.
Slowly but surely, the temperature was starting to rise. Two days later, the den was filling up with water, and the mama wolf was confused and worried about what was going on.
When she climbed out of the den, she was soaking wet. The sound of her puppies crying warned her to act fast. The mama wolf had no time to think and acted on pure instinct.
She jumped down into her den and started to pick up her babies one by one. With a puppy in her mouth, she carried them to safety away from the flooding den.
It wasn’t an easy endeavor, especially because she had so many puppies. She ran faster and faster with each baby she saved. Eventually, all seven of her children were safe, and the mama wolf needed to find another den.
