When Kona the German Shepherd and Nala the Golden Retriever first met one another as puppies, it was not love at first sight. But within a day, their relationship improved, and they played and romped around the yard like littermates.
If the adorable Kona and Nala were not running around their mom’s kitchen or the yard, chances are they would be snuggled together on their bed for a short nap.
Jen, the mother of Kona and Nala, was pleased to see their connection grow. “We didn’t just want them to coexist,” she said. “We were hoping that they would have a special bond.”
When Jen found out she was pregnant, she was not sure how her fur babies would react to another member of the household. But when Jen’s baby arrived, they instinctively knew he was part of the family.
When Kona and Nala first met him, they went up to him and gently gave him little kisses. After they met the little one, Nala and Kona spent all their time around the baby.
With the new family member, Kona and Nala’s behaviors changed, too. When the baby was awake, Kona, who used to be very rambunctious, would lay around him and relax, and Nala would be the patient sister and let her baby brother play with her.
“It’s super exciting knowing that he is going to grow up, reaching milestones with them by his side,” said Jen. “And Kona and Nala now have a lifelong companion that they’ll be able to spend the rest of their lives with.”
