Fishing with your canine best friend might seem like a dream come true for some. For a man named Alfonse Attard, fishing with his Jack Russell Terrier nearly ended in a tragedy.
The Australian fisherman was out in the open waters with his dog, Jack, when his boat began to leak. Before he knew it, Alfonse’s boat tipped over and sent him and his dog tumbling into the water.
Fortunately, Trever Borg and his father Laurie were fishing nearby and saw Alfonse’s boat flip over. The two fishermen pulled Alfonse out of the water and brought him back to shore.
Once Alfonse had his wits about him again, he realized that his dog was nowhere to be found. Panicking, he told Trevor and Laurie about his fur baby, and a team of volunteers ventured back into the water.
For Alfonse, it felt like he was waiting on the shore forever. He had been with Jack for 18 years. Losing the pup would have felt like losing a child.
Alfonse stood on the shore for an hour while rescuers flipped over the wreckage of his boat. Underneath the capsized boat, they found Jack treading water. Miraculously, the Jack Russell Terrier was safe.
Alfonse did the same thing that any animal lover would have done when reunited with their lost fur baby. He started weeping. Watch this heartwarming rescue of this man’s pup.
