When Loreta and Eldad from Hope for Paws found the small abandoned pup, she was on a busy street. Fortunately, the tiny dog stayed safe until they arrived on the scene.

Whether people are rescuing a wild animal or an abandoned stray, one of the biggest worries many rescuers share is that the animal might be hurt. The stakes were even higher for this dog.

If the rescuers moved too quickly or scared the pup, there was a strong chance she would run into traffic. Loreta and Eldad needed to take each step slowly to ensure the dog was safe.

As Loreta approached, the dog squeezed between the bars of a fence to a junkyard. But Loreta had brought a secret weapon with her to help her win the dog’s trust: a hamburger.

“Make a friend,” Eldad said. Bit by bit, Loreta offered the stray dog small bits of the meat. On the one hand, they wanted to take things slowly for the dog, but on the other hand, this spot was notorious for gang activity.

Finally, Loreta used the gentle snare to capture the dog and guide her out of the fence. After giving the little one some reassuring pats on the head, Loreta and Eldad led Freya back to the car.

Once she was all cleaned off, Freya joined a loving foster family. In her new environment, Freya was like a different dog. The rescuers were confident the compassionate dog would find her forever home soon.
