Talkative cockatoo doesn’t want to go to bed yet

If you have little ones yourself or know anyone who has children, you know how difficult bedtime can be. As it turns out, bedtime was just as difficult for Thai the Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo.

A comparison between children and birds might feel odd at first. Still, research has indicated more truth to this analogy than at first inspection. Many scientists agree that cockatoos display an intellect similar to a two-year-old human.

At first, the vibrant white bird seemed perfectly content with standing on his perch. While his dad sang, he bobbed his head to the music. But as soon as his dad left, things changed.

With his father gone and the reality of bedtime imminent, the cockatoo threw a tantrum. Stretching his neck, so his voice would carry down the hallway, he screeched as loud as he could.

When yelling didn’t work, Thai switched to a different strategy employed by toddlers everywhere: pouting. He kneaded the blanket cover for his cage and said, “Come on. Go to bed.”

Finally, his dad came back for one last hug and kiss. For a moment, Thai seemed happy, but then it was time to go into his bed, and he clung to his dad’s shirt as hard as he could.

As the curtain fell over his cage, Thai let out one last screech in protest. Hopefully, bedtime will become easier for the patient family of this willful cockatoo with time.
