I Never Thought I Would Hear Disturbed Sound Like This. His Rendition Of This Classic Is Incredible!

If you’re at all familiar with the music of the metal band Disturbed, this video may come as a huge shock to you. The band, which formed in 1996 in Chicago, Illinois, has a sound that pulls from heavy metal and rock influences. It’s harder music, the kind of thing that inspires mosh pits at concerts, and screaming into microphones. Many of their fans come to their shows decked out in black cloths, with wallet chains and baggy jeans. Their recent appearance on the Conan O’Brien show, however, redefines this band and puts them in a whole new light!

For their performance they chose to cover Simon & Garfunkel’s 1964 release “Sound Of Silence.” This song, traditionally a soft, eerie tune, has served as inspiration for many aspiring and established musicians since its release. At the time of its release, however, the song was deemed a failure, and was instrumental in leading to the breakup of the Simon & Garfunkel. However, in the following year or so, the song slowly gained traction. Then, a remix was released, and it immediately topped the charts, getting Simon & Garfunkel to patch over their differences and join forces once again.

When Disturbed chose to tackle this iconic song, they stayed true to it’s soft and rather melancholy roots. But, of course, they put their own, unique twist to it, elevating this rendition above a simple cover and into a class all its own. The stage is set with candelabra and a small orchestra for their performance. It’s the perfect mood lighting for this eerie, and somewhat sad, song. When David Draiman, the lead singer, grabs the mic and opens his mouth, the pure, sweet sound that comes forth is simply chilling.
