Taking care of a special needs dog is a full-time job, requiring time, energy, and perseverance. Because of that, many special needs animals do not receive the love and care they deserve.
Fortunately, that wasn’t the case for Toby the Yorkie. After five weeks, his previous owner had decided to put him down, but Kit from the Florida Yorkie Rescue stepped in to give him a second chance.
Caring for Toby was not easy. Born with hydrocephalus, a rare malady involving water in the brain, Toby had difficulty walking and standing. His head weighed more than the rest of his tiny body.
His family at Florida Yorkie Rescue didn’t let that stand in their way. They cared for him, loved him, and played with him like they would any other dog. They saw in him what his previous owner hadn’t looked for: the will to live.
Recognized for his adorable personality and inspiring attitude, Toby garnered a loyal following online and received a customized dog wheelchair from Walking Pets.
While Toby has some challenges he will have to face, his mom Kit is confident that he will live a happy and fulfilling life surrounded by people who love him.
But before you get too hopeful about adopting this adorable and brave pup, he has already found his forever home. And it’s with Kit, who has loved this special needs dog since they first met.
