When Kara rescued the kitten, Tritan, from underneath a deck, he was the tiniest cat she had ever seen. He weighed less than half a pound and could fit in the palm of Kara’s hand.
Kara tried looking for Tritan’s mom, but she was nowhere to be found, so she took the kitten in and did her best to rehabilitate him. Unfortunately, the sweet kitten had a parasite that was stealing all of his nutrients, and she was worried she might lose him.
But the moment she gave him his medicine and opened up a can of cat food, his big eyes lit up, and Kara felt encouraged, saying, “You could see he had that fight in him.”
When Tritan came home, it was time to meet the rest of the family, and he was not shy at all, walking right up to the other cats. And on the first night, he fell asleep curled into his mother’s neck.
Kara knew Tritan was going to be okay when he hit one pound. The rest of his features grew to match his big eyes, and he had spurts of zoomies like any other healthy cat.
He certainly was not a cat who let his size get in the way. Once he was three-and-a-half pounds, he would get into wrestling matches with the rest of his siblings that are at least five pounds bigger than him.
Thanks to his loving mom, Tritan proved just how much a fighting spirit he had. “He has his whole life ahead of him,” said Kara. “I am thankful for every day I get to spend with him.”
