When Malti first arrived with her human mom at five weeks old, she was nearly feral. For the first year of her life, Malti did not like being around her new mom and would hide whenever anyone tried to pay her any attention.
But Malti’s mom was patient, and with time, Malti started to show her mom her true colors. “Now, she shocks me with how smart and how very sensitive she is,” said Malti’s mom.
Malti was beloved by her whole family, including her brother, Flash Gordon, a small dog. Normally, dogs and tortoises do not make a good combination, but since Flash had known Malti his whole life, the two were at peace together.
It helped that both Malti and Flash Gordon had the same love language. “They both have kind of the same motivation,” said their mom, chuckling. “They love with their stomachs.”
While Malti loved the whole family, her favorite person was Grandma. Whenever Malti saw her grandma, she would make a beeline straight for her because Grandma had the tastiest treats.
When Grandma walked around the house, Malti would follow right behind. And when Malti needed to warm up, she joined Grandma on a heating pad and snuggled into her fuzzy robe.
“It really just doesn’t matter whether we’re warm-blooded or cold-blooded,” said Malti’s mom. “[Malti’s] teaching me how to walk a mile in her shoes, and how to see life from her perspective.”
