We might not have superheroes as a job description, but a woman named Kaitlin had the next best thing. After all, as a full-time rescuer, she saves hundreds of lives every day.

Before she made the shift to become a rescuer, Kaitlin noticed her home had a problem with stray dogs. She contacted veterinarians to see if they could help with the problem, but they said their hands were tied.
“I would see a skinny dog here, just groups of malnourished dogs,” said Kaitlin. Kaitlin knew someone needed to help these poor pups, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.

But what does a day in the life of a rescuer look like? Most mornings started out with Kaitlin going on rescue missions. Sometimes that meant feeding the pups, and other times that meant taking them back to the shelter.
“After rescues, it’s feeding time,” said Kaitlin. She would load her truck with as much canned and dry food as she could and visit all the local strays around the island.

When Kaitlin finished socializing with the local strays, she spent the majority of her day at the rescue center. While there, she would socialize with the dogs and prepare them to find their forever homes.
Kaitlin would never have guessed she would end up a full-time rescuer, but every day has been worth it. “It is not easy,” said Kaitlin, “but it’s something I wake up and choose every day, and I couldn’t be happier.
