When Finn first met the stray cat, Charlie, she was at her rural home when she saw a cat stalking around their property. Being the compassionate woman she was, Finn brought out some food for Charlie.

Even after Finn fed her, Charlie was nervous about anything bigger than her, including Finn. Still, Finn continued to give her food, knowing that this stray cat had nowhere else to go.

But one day, Finn’s desire to help Charlie took on greater weight. When Charlie came up to her screen door, she saw a distinct lump in her stomach. Charlie was pregnant.

“It was a concerned reaction,” said Finn. “Because we had to make sure that she stayed healthy.” And their attitude was not the only one that changed when Charlie became pregnant.

Charlie also became more engaged with Finn and her family. “I think she knew she was now dependent on us,” said Finn. “It was kind of the switch that she knew that she had to stay around.”

The winter after Finn discovered Charlie was pregnant ended up being brutally cold, but Charlie still was not ready to come in. So, Finn and her family set up a heat lamp outside to keep Charlie warm. “And she did not leave,” said Finn.

By spring, Charlie brought her three kittens out to meet Finn and her partner, and Finn’s partner immediately fell in love with a kitten named Lucy. They decided to adopt little Lucy and let Charlie be their “little garden kitten,” planning to find homes for the other adorable kittens.
