Aging Orangutan Patiently Teaches Young Daughter Basic Skills of Rainforest Survival

Animals are similar to humans in several ways, especially when it comes to raising their young. Wild critters need to know how to survive on their own, and an older orangutan is teaching her young daughter how to do that.

Thanks to an exciting nature series on BBC Earth, Sir David Attenborough shows us a precious moment between a mother and daughter orangutan. In order to survive in the rainforests of Sumatra, the young primate needs to learn specific skills.

Orangutans have a lifespan that ranges between 35 and 45 years old. The mother of the six-year-old primate was 42 years old at the time this was filmed. She knew how crucial it was for her daughter to learn the basics.

The main predators these adorable creatures have are tigers. Tigers are quick, sly, and can attack easily, making these survival skills that much more critical. It’s truly amazing to see the family dynamics of the wild.
