Mama penguin encourages shy baby penguin to start making friends

One baby penguin hatched later than the others, and he had to catch up with the other chicks in the colony. To gain independence, penguins need to learn how to interact with their peers.

After two weeks, the other babies have already made new friends and know how to be confident. This baby penguin is still shy and stays in his mother’s pouch.

For penguins to survive, they need to be sociable and learn their responsibilities in the colony. Eventually, the little chick finds some bravery. He slowly learns to walk with the help of his mom.

The little penguin stumbles a few times, but he meets a lot of other penguins. Although it is hard to socialize when you are the runt of the colony.

He returns to his mom, who comforts him. Meanwhile, in the ocean, the fathers are enjoying swimming again. They lost half their body weight after not eating for 4 weeks.

They are swimming to hunt fish and squid. While underwater, they can hold their breath for up to 20 minutes and dive up to 600 meters deep.

Three weeks later, the baby chick has grown and still follows his mother. But now he feels like he’s learned enough, and the once nervous toddler has turned into a confident explorer.
