Owner teaches pet parrot new tricks, plays basketball like a pro

When Alexandrea and her husband decided they wanted to get a pet, they ran into a bit of an impasse. Alexandrea wanted a dog and her husband wanted a cat, so they compromised with a pet parrot.

They named their pet parrot Shadow because that was exactly how he behaved. Whether Alexandrea and her husband went into the shower, the kitchen or bed, Shadow was right behind them.

Parrots are surprisingly intelligent animals, and for that reason, they require a lot of attention and stimulation. Fortunately, Alexandrea and her husband kept Shadow busy and learning.

One of Shadow’s favorite tricks he learned was playing basketball, which involved grabbing a squishy ball in his beak and dropping it into a miniature basket. Whenever the ball was out, Shadow would grab it immediately and start searching for the basket.

When he was not showing off his basketball skills, Shadow loved to finger wrestle and throw towels onto the floor. But Shadow could also be a loving and affectionate bird.

Alexandrea was quick to point out that Shadow was a lot of work for both her and her couple, and she urged people who are considering adding a bird to their life to consider rescuing rather than adopting.

For Alexandrea and her husband, Shadow was a perfect fit in their life, and they could not imagine life without them. They looked forward to the next 25 years of memories with their little bird.
