Right before freezing temperatures hit in Houston, Texas, Sam went out to rescue a group of dogs that were wandering around a parking lot. Among those she rescued was the uncertain pitbull, Boomer. Sam decided to foster him.
When Sam first took in the rescue Pitbull, Boomer, into her home, he refused to come inside. “It was like there was a forcefield right at the door,” Sam said.
Thanks to Sam’s patience and encouragement, Boomer was able to cross the threshold into the home and learn to trust her and her family. With time, his walls came down and his timidity was replaced with affection.
Six months after Sam rescued him off the street, Caitlin and her partner, Mike, adopted the friendly pup and named him Porter. It was the perfect home for the lovable Pitbull.
“We had been talking about getting a dog for a long time,” said Porter’s adoptive mom. “And when we saw him, it was sort of like ‘we have to do this now, we just have to.’”
Porter, formerly Boomer, was immediately comfortable in his new home. His tail was wagging, and he had a big dog grin on his face. He knew he was starting a new chapter in his life.
His parents even celebrated his one-month “adoptiversary” with a special delivery of toys, treats and gifts for Porter, and they could not wait for the years of joy to come.
