If there is anything hearing about animal rescue stories can teach you, it is that no rescue story is the same. But this particular story about a dog who was fostered by chimpanzees is one of the most unique we have seen in a long time.
When Jenny and Jim Desmond, who owned and ran the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue in West Africa, found the puppy, Snafu, they were not sure if the dog would make it.
In addition to being starving, Snafu had infections and worms. Jenny and Jim did everything they could to give her the best chance for survival, but they still worried it would not be enough.
Snafu surprised her rescuers by making a stunning recovery. Her skin healed, and her eyes cleared. Jenny and Jim decided that it was time for Snafu to meet the other residents of her foster home.
When the chimpanzees met Snafu, they immediately fell in love. But these young chimpanzees went above and beyond being gentle with the puppy. They also helped take care of the puppy and play with her.
As Snafu got bigger and stronger, she eventually outgrew her young ape caretakers, but that did not stop the chimpanzees from loving and looking out for their sweet foster puppy.
With Snafu fully recovered, Jenny and Jim knew it was time for Snafu to move on to her forever home. Thanks to the care of those compassionate chimpanzees, Snafu got to live in a loving home with two sisters and a mom.
