In many cultures, seeing an albino creature is supposed to impart good luck to the viewer. This superstition is also believed in Canada, where one lucky driver saw a pair of “spirit” moose crossing the road.
People often mistake “spirit” or “ghost” moose for albinos, but these moose do not have the requisite red eyes. Instead, these moose get their unique color from a recessive trait known as leucism or a partial loss of coloration in fur.
This coloration is extremely rare, and many First Nations people consider these moose to be spiritually significant. That, and their rarity, made this moment one that Jackie would never forget.
Jackie Burns Loyer was driving through one of the heavily wooded areas of Northern Ontario, Canada, when she caught sight of the stunning white moose crossing the road.
The mother and baby moose were nervous as they crossed the road. They stopped at the side of the highway only briefly before running into the bushes. But that was enough time for Jackie.
Jackie did not waste a moment before she reached for her camera and captured this amazing video of the mother moose and her baby. “They’re so beautiful,” Jackie later told reporters.
Take a look at Jessica Loyer’s short video of these two majestic animals. Who knows? Maybe some of the luck from the spirit moose will rub off on you, too.
